Speechless Studying Saturday

Since I am in school and working full-time, I do not have a lot of time for blogging.  So I bring you this speechless Studying Saturday  in pictures.  Enjoy!

mudess

As I was posting a comment to a friend's blog the other day, the word verification process came and I entered the given letters.  And then I laughed because it so described me and my boots that day:  mudess.  Yes, I have a new nickname for myself.  Mudess.  I like it, it has a nice (muddy) ring to it and looks somewhat elegant when capitalized, too.

"Yes, your Mudess, I will take the wheelbarrow full of manure to the compost pile right away."

(hee hee!)

Because I'm naturally nosy, I went to answers.com to see if I could find a definition for mudess, alas there was none.  Perfect!  (don't we all want to coin our own nicknames?)

The English student in me wants to add a "d" in there.  Muddess.  Is this "proper" spelling for a word that doesn't really exist?  Or, should it be left in all of it's un-glory of mudess?  Yeah, I just made up another word:  un-glory.  I kinda like it, too.

Speaking of liking words, let's review some of my favorites.  Please chime in at any time and add yours, too.

Okay, so I admit it.  I wondered what the next word verification would be so I went and posted another comment, which served a dual-purpose as I really did want to continue reading her blog because it's been a long while since I've been able to spend any amount of time reading anything except one or the other of two English or Religion textbooks.  So, the next word I got was:

~~drum roll~~

ratear

wha?  is that RAT-EAR or RA-TEAR or.....RATE-AR.  hmm.  Interesting.

Not quite as cute and quaint and befitting as mudess, but fun and completely useless nonetheless.

Have a great day!!  Anything you do after reading this will be considered productive so have at it!!

monday blahs

I admit it.  Today I have only done what has to be done.  I ran some errands, took K, the neighbor girl to the dentist, rescued a chicken that had fallen off of a chicken truck.  You know, everyday farmhousewife stuff and then I came home to sit in the air conditioning and read the entire book "Louder Than Words" by Jenny McCarthy.  Then  I painted my nails with a color by Orly called 'Catch The Bouquet' (whatever!) - which must be discontinued because I did not find it on their website - however, because I only paid one dollar for it, I'm happy.

And now, I'm blogging!

About that chicken.  When K and I were coming home from the dentist - I saw a chicken truck traveling our route home.  I wondered aloud, "maybe a chicken will fall off the truck" - since my husband has told me that it does indeed happen.  I never expected to come up on a chicken in the road, but I did.

You can imagine what I did.  I kept driving right on by stopped the mommyvan and pulled over, parking and turning on the hazard lights.  I listened for trucks and went across the road to get this poor (huge!) chicken, or,  Rooster I think.  He did not know what to do.  It was like watching a child that's never seen dirt before walk on a dirt road.  I picked him up and looked for major injuries - he was bleeding in a couple places but not bad so I put him in the back of the mommyvan.  I even turned the rear a/c on for him.  SUCH a bleeding heart, I know.

K was screeching at this point, "I can't believe you're putting that thing in the car - I'll drive if you want to hold him".  haha!  poor thing.  Not only did she have to go to the dentist today, AND pick up a chicken - but it's her birthday - and the 16th at that!  Happy Birthday Special K!

I wanted to call him Foghorn Leghorn but husband wants to call him RoadRash.  Either one works.

He really did fall off the truck.  Poor guy.

About that book - I highly recommend it - touched by Autism or not.  I had a lump in my throat by page 6 and couldn't put it down.  Disclaimer:  if you can't handle a few cuss words - don't pick it up.  It is, afterall, written by Jenny McCarthy, people.

The Garden of Weedin'

I haven't been keeping up with the weeds in the garden.  While we're making confessions, I haven't been keeping up with much of anything lately. One of the great things about being a farmhousewife is that eventually, I may or may not ever catch up and I'm ok with that.  Well, that's not entirely true - I do have the drive to keep up most of the time - but lately the heat has been unusually intense and therein lies the explanation of my slacking decrease in ability to keep up.

Basically, it's too hot.

So instead of getting out there working the garden, I'll just put pictures on here.
This is the unintentional combination of a rogue snake gourd plant intertwined with a mass of cucumber plantings.  So far it has proved to be a pain in the hiney challenge when it comes to finding those hiding cukes.

Both plants do make for a showy area of interest in the garden.

what? is that?

oh! that's a Snake Gourd !

And this is what makes it all worth the backache and the bellyaching about the backache.

I read this quote and rather identified with it - I hope you will like it as well as I do.  And p.s.  I thought of a newfound blogger friend and her post  Cultivating Perfection  when I read this also.  Miriam, this one's for you (and me).

My garden is a balancing act between weeds and wonders.
Though I started out as a frustrated perfectionist, over the
years I've learned how to enjoy my garden rather than feel
enslaved by it, thanks to a growing know-how and a
change in mindset.

housewives, the almost-desperate kind

I thought housewives were supposed to lounge around in pajama's until noon, pile the dishes in the sink and wash them right before the husband gets home and in the meanwhile, do things like paint toenails, watch soap opera's and eat bon-bons....?

Somewhere, I missed a memo, because my glamorous life is busier than ever.

As evidenced by this here neglected and underfed blog.

Must.

Find.

Blog.

Fodder.

It's not necessarily that I have nothing to write about. We've repainted the kitchen, re-arranged the dining room, and the living room. FINISHED the living room, speaking of which, and it's lovely.

The fence is done. The barn is in order. The grape arbor has been put up. The leaves have been put into a compost bin. The walnuts have been picked up.

It's just that because all of this stuff is getting done, none of it is getting written here!

Supper's almost ready, got to run.

What is this leisure time of which you speak?
